I am grateful to Joyful Heart Foundation for their incredible work to end the backlog of rape kits around the country. Recently, we debated a bill to improve rape kit tracking in Iowa. Unfortunately, with Iowa's horrible statute of limitations laws - child rape kits can be thrown away. This is unacceptable, especially when you hear the story I tell on the Senate floor about the serial rapists who were caught after 11,000+ untested rape kits were finally tested in just one community."Let's not leave this chamber this year with the worst laws in the country on child sex abuse. We should be protecting children from predators and our communities, and I hope that you will, as a legislative body, reconsider that and see if we can't put it in our hearts to get sexual predators off the street." | Janet Petersen
